It's amazing I have been on bed rest for a week and I am still busy! I had another check up today and everything looks great. I gained one pound this week! Yay! That is a grand total of 4 pounds. :( The babies heartbeats were nice and strong. (145 and 160) Since there isn't any problems my next appoinment will be in 2 weeks. However, after that appointment, I will be seeing a new doctor. Dr. H has more experience with twins and and dealing with any complications.

Meanwhile I have been working on the second quilt. I got all the squares cut out, sewn together, and I was ready to add the border. For the border and backing I was going to use pink gingham but when I was at my local wal mart I discovered that they are remodeling the store. To my horror they didn't have any fabric! After I went home and pouted about it, I decided I had enough of the ABC print leftover to use instead of the pink gingham. So now it is all pinned together ready for me to sew.

You might be wondering how do I sew from bed. Well, my sewing machine actually sits on a stand that is the perfect height to move right next to bed. I can't sew for long periods as I tend to hunch over and I am big enough now that my belly gets in the way of some things.

I did manage to work on Mine All Mine last night. That was the first time since the ultrasound I actually picked a needle up! I hope it will be a quiet evening so I can work on him so more tonight. :)

Have a great night everyone!!

Gift from Allie

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their good wishes with the "twins". Some of you have asked if I am still on bed rest and the answer is yes. This pregnancy is considered "high risk" 1. because of twins and 2. because I already have had one pre-term delivery with Mac. For the time being my doctor is allowing me to sit up in bed for brief periods through out the day. I am thankful for that!!

You would think with having all this "free" time I would have been able to work on something but sadly that isn't the case. I did manage to get the squares cut out for Baby B's quilt. I am using the same fabric as I did for Baby A's except the backing for this one will be pink instead of yellow. However, that is as far as I could go because my sewing machine is in another room! I tried to talk Mike into moving it last night for me but he wouldn't. So I roped my kids into it today. :)

However, Allie has been a busy crafter today! She has been waiting to find out if she was going to have a new brother sister so she could make a blanket. She was tickled to find out she has to make 2 blankets...lol. .

She also picked out her fabrics for me to start on a quilt for her. I just love them!!

Again, thank you for all the wonderful comments on finding out we are expecting twins. I am sure I will bore you to death with my posts about being pregnant with them! :)

Have a good night!

Boy or Girl?

As you know, this morning I had my ultrasound so I started off my day by drinking lots of water. Lucky for me (and my bladder!) they were running on time so I didn't have to wait long before they started the ultrasound. First she checked my bladder and things to make sure they looked fine. Then she moved onto the baby...

Tech: How's 2?

Me: What?

Tech: 2.

Me: Two what?

Tech: Two babies.

Me: WHAT!!!!!!!!! ARE YOU SERIOUS???

Tech: Yes.

Me: OMG!!

Yep, you read right, I am having twins!!! After the initial shock wore off, I asked about the sexes of the babies. A girl and another girl. Twin girls! They were able to tell me that they are fraternal twins and not identical twins. According to the measurements taken today my due date is still November 15 (my birthday!) and I am right at 19.3 weeks along.

I have to admit the news of twins is quite exciting and scary, too! All I can keep thinking is....I have to get 2 of EVERYTHING! Like....now I got to make another afghan, quilt, and Christmas stockings!! LOL....what have I got myself into?!

Not only is today a good day because of finding out about twins but because Mike and I are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary. :)

I am sorry if this post is quite scatterbrained but.....well that is how I feel right now! LOL I hope everyone is having a wonderful night!:)

Bed Rest It Is

Ever have one of those days that start out pretty good and out of nowhere you get completely blind sided by something? That pretty much sums up how my day turned out to be today. I had another doctor appointment today and I was informed I was to be on bed rest because my cervix seems to be incompetent. It was and wasn't a complete shock to me. I had a LEEP procedure in 2001 so I was aware this could arise but until today the doctor hadn't said anything about it. Tomorrow at the ultrasound they will be measuring the length of my cervix and then we will find out how we are going to proceed with the rest of the pregnancy.

This news of course puts me in a complete whirlwind of emotions. Mostly fear. I personally know of the medical wonders available for premature infants but I also know the emotionally toll it takes on the parents and siblings. However, I did learn one thing and that was to take it day by day. So, for now I will concentrate on the ultrasound and what it reveals tomorrow.

Some of you have asked if I have a preference of the sex of the little one. I really just want a baby that is healthy and full term. Boy or girl, healthy or sick, this baby will be surround by lots of love.

As for stitching, I made some good progress on Mine All Mine this weekend.

I am off to stitch on Mine All Mine some more tonight. I hope everyone has a great night!

I had a wonderful surprise waiting for me in the mail yesterday. :) Carol sent this super adorable fob as a PIF gift. I simply love it! Thank you, Carol!!

I'm sorry for the lack of posts lately. It isn't because I have been super busy or anything. I have just been feeling blah and have no ambition to do anything. Which doesn't help getting the housework and laundry done!
I did have a check up this week for the little one on Thursday. I know as a general rule doctor offices are cold but this one was freezing cold. It was so cold when they pricked my finger for some blood, my blood would not drip out of my finger! So their immediate concern was if I had gestational diabetes. I tried to explain to them I was freezing cold and we all know cold blood doesn't flow so well. Anyways, they made me drink that NASTY orange drink for a glucose test. An hour later, they prick my finger again (I am still freezing!) and still my blood doesn't want to come out but they eventually got enough to do a reading. I was right. No gestational diabetes.
Tuesday morning I do have to have an ultrasound done. Whoo-hoo....we finally get to learn (hopefully!) the sex of the little one.:) The kids are excited and all three of them have asked if they can come to the ultrasound. That made me really happy!
As for stitching, I have been working on Mine All Mine. I am making good progress but I still have quite a bit to stitch on it.
Enjoy your weekend!

Mine All Mine...Again

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their wonderful comments on finishing Egyptian Sampler. Thank You!!! Right now I don't have plans to get it framed right away. It will get to reside with my other pieces waiting to be framed.

I did go stash diving and I finally decided that I would start Mac's Christmas stocking. The pattern is called Mine All Mine by X's and Oh's. I stitched this one last year for my step dad so hopefully this one will stitch up quickly. Mac is quite excited about me starting on it. He keeps checking with me to find out if I have made any progress. LOL....no pressure there!

Have a great night!

Egyptian Sampler Finished

I have been a busy little stitcher and I finished Egyptian Sampler this afternoon! Major Whoo-hoo!!

I did run into a small snag and had to fudge an area (Queen's face) but overall I think it turned out okay.
Now, since I had a finish that means I can start a new piece! Hmmm....guess I have to go stash diving and see what I can come up with to start. :)
Have a great evening!

A Stitching Update!

What is this? A cross stitching update! As much as I enjoyed crocheting and quilting that little tiny voice in my head kept screaming.....Don't you really want to stitch on something? I finally gave in and listened to the voice yesterday and pulled out Egyptian Sampler.

It has been a pretty normal day for me and the kids today. I picked the house up and did the grocery shopping earlier so now I am taking break and relaxing before I start dinner.

Have a great weekend!

Little One's Afghan

Things have been quiet (except for the kids bickering) around here the past few days. That left time for me to finish the little one's afghan. I am happy with how this afghan turned out. :)

I want to thank everyone for their comments on my quilt attempt. :) I have to admit it felt good to have a happy dance. Okay, so it wasn't a TW happy dance but it was still a pretty good one for me.

Have a wonderful evening!

I can quilt!

I guess you can tell from the title how I spent yesterday afternoon and this morning. :) It is by no means anywhere close to being perfect but at least you can tell what it is. I did learn some valuable lessons like making sure your squares are the exact same size! Some of my seams don't exactly match up but, hey, isn't that what makes it unique! :)

Overall, I have to say I am quite pleased with my results. This learning experience has also brought a lot of memories up for me. My (step) grandmother used to quilt but she passed before she was able to teach me how to quilt. It always bring a smile to my face when I think of getting a quilt from her. She was an older lady so her eyesight wasn't 20/20 anymore so you always had to double check to make sure she got all the pins out. Even then, you still would end up getting stuck. LOL

I do have plans to make at least 3 more quilts, one for each of the kids. By that time I should know if I can handle making a large quilt for Mike and I.

As for today, I think I will work on the little one's afghan. I only have about 20 more rows to finish on the body. I probably would have had the body finished by now but some little white kitten keeps attaching my yarn and getting it all knotted up.

I hope everyone is having a great day!

Nice Weekend

We had a pretty nice weekend. We didn't do much on Saturday and I didn't feel like cooking so we ordered pizza. We order the same thing each time we go in and never have had a problem with our order so I didn't look at the pizzas until we got home. I opened the first 2 pizzas and they smelt delicious but when I opened up the third this awful smell hit my nose and I literally ran over the kids running to the bathroom. What was supposed to be a hamburger pizza was a cheeseburger pizza. It was the smell of cooked pickles that sent me running. The kids at this point are still willing to try it and let's just say their reactions were pretty close to mine! We learned a valuable lesson that night....Never order a cheeseburger pizza!!

I worked on the little one's quilt Saturday night. I added the border to the front and was ready to pin it together when I decided I didn't really like the fabric for the backing. So now I have to make a fabric run sometime this week. :)

Sunday was relaxing day as the guys went fishing and us girls had the house to ourselves. I worked on Harvest Witch and finished all the back stitching on her. I started working on the very last part....back stitching the web. This have proven to be a big pain! The design calls for blending filament but when I stitched it on the fabric it didn't show up. This means I have to blend something with it to make it show up or I just don't stitch it at all. So, that is the reason for no progress picture of her this week. If I decided not to stitch the web, then I am officially done with her.,

I'm not sure what the kids and I are doing today. I needed to do some shopping but it is raining and I don't feel like dealing with traffic in the rain AND 3 kids in the car. Maybe I will curl up on the couch and crochet. :)

Have a great day!

Good Check Up

Mac had a great check up with the doctor yesterday! :D Let me tell you that ranks higher than any happy dance I have ever had. I was a bit concerned as 2 nights before Mac had some drainage and ear pain from the ear that had the surgery. I gave him some medicine and sent him back to bed (it was 4 AM when he woke me up). It turned out that it was ear wax drainage. Ughh...I was so hoping the surgery would help that but I guess not. Anyways, the doctor cleaned out the wax and peered into his ear proclaiming it looked great. In fact, it has healed up so nicely that Mac can now get his head wet! Yay!! That means he can take a shower and wash his hair all by himself and I don't have to do it! :)

We also discussed Mac' next surgery. Mac has to go back in to the office in October to have a hearing test and then we will schedule the next surgery. Dr. L is hoping to be able to combine the next 2 surgeries into one. Not only are they going back in and removing the parts of the Cholesteatoma that grew back but he is hoping to be able to replace the stapes bone at the same time. That means Mac would be able to hear out of his left ear. :)

I want to thank everyone for their comments on the start of the baby quilt. Yes, I do sew fast but that is because I have been sewing since I was 8 or 9 with a sewing machine and before that I was taught to hand sew. Sewing is the craft my mom taught me. :) When I was little my mom used to sew me dresses and clothes for my dolls. I have to say some of my fondest memories have clothes she made for the family in it.

I haven't decided if I am going to tie down the quilt or if I will sew it down. My main concern is attaching the binding correctly! I have been doing some research on it and in theory I understand how to do it. I'm just not sure if it will pass from my brain to my hands!

As for my afghan, I am 2/3 done with now. I did have to frog out one row about 3 times but believe me ripping out stitches in crochet is a lot easier than ripping out in cross stitch!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Going Good

It turned out to be a pretty quiet day today. Krissy and Allie went to friends' houses for the night so that left Mac and I to enjoy the day. We had a quiet morning. Mac played outside while it was still cool and I cut the squares for the quilt. Then we went to McDonald's for lunch. We even treated ourselves to ice creams afterwards. We finally came home and I started to sew the squares into strips. Mac decided to watch a movie and not even 20 minutes later he was fast asleep! I took advantage of that moment (who knows when I will get a chance like this again!) and took a nap, too.:)

After my little nap, I finished sewing the squares together and started sewing the strips together. I finished sewing the strips together this evening.:) I am temporarily putting this on hold because I can't decide on which fabric to use for the backing. If I wait till we know the sex of the little one that makes the choice easier. Oh well, maybe looking at it for a few days will help me decide.

The pattern I am doing is basic square quilt pattern. The squares are 5 inches by 5 inches which makes the entire blanket 35 inches by 45 inches so far.

I am not sure what I will work on tomorrow. Mac has a check up with the ENT doctor for his ear in the morning and I have to pick up the girls from their friends houses. I also really need to catch up on the laundry and house cleaning. Yuck! However, that is tomorrow and I still have a little time before bed and I think I will crochet some on the afghan. :)

Attempting to Quilt

As of 3:15 PM today peace and quiet ceased to exist at least until August. I had a pretty nice day even though I didn't get to spend it being lazy as I had hoped. Mike had a slow day at work so he called me to meet him for lunch. Since I was already in town I figured I would run to the store to pick up laundry soap, fabric softener, etc. While I was there I stopped by the fabric department and found some perfect fabric to start a quilt for the little one. :)

This will be my first attempt at quilting so I am not promising anything at all!

I did crochet a little bit on the afghan today. I am a little over 1/3 done with the body. It has a lacy type border and I haven't decided if I will do that or just make a plain border. I have done it both ways and I like it both ways. I guess it just depends which one decides to be nice to me.

I guess you can tell I am starting to get excited about the little one's arrival. While I still have a longs ways to go I feel really good about this pregnancy. With Mac's pregnancy I was too scared to start buying things so we ended up having to do it all at once when we finally knew he would live. So, this time I am enjoying being able to have the luxury of looking and deciding what to get at my pace. :) We are planning on finding out the sex of the baby when I have an ultrasound done so some things are being pushed to the bottom of the list. So for now everything is neutral colors.:)

Little One's Blanket

Okay, I have been bitten by the crochet bug! I forgot how much I really love to crochet! All I could think about what can I crochet next. This is a rather easy pattern or maybe it is because I have done this one before. :)

I am planning on being completely lazy tomorrow as it is the kids last day of school for the year. It is hard to believe that when they go back to school I will have one in high school (9th), junior high (8th), elementary (5th), AND one on the way! Sometimes I wonder exactly how crazy I am! LOL

Have a wonderful evening!

9. Keep kids from driving me crazy when summer vacation starts.

I didn't work on any stitching last night as I was excited to start working on the little one's blanket. Well, let's just say it wasn't very nice. The yarn I bought is a "fuzzy" type and I was having one hell of a time making sure I had the correct number of stitches in a row. After 4 hours of frustration I admitted defeat. Good thing I had a back up plan just in case this happened! I bought some variegated yarn with neutral colors. I know this yarn won't give me problems as it is the same as the one I made for Krissy.

I was happy to work on some stitching today after that fiasco last night .:) Today was Harvest Witch day for me. To look at it you wouldn't think I made any progress but let me say there is a lot of back stitching in this design!

Have a great night!
