Here is OOPS finished into a Trick or Treat bag for Mac. I really like how it turned out and so does Mac. He thinks it is the cool. I guess that is a pretty good compliment coming from a 9 year old boy. The finished size is 14x15 inches so it should work perfectly for holding his Halloween loot.
This morning I ran into my LNS to pick up some things and while I was there I showed my bag to another stitcher. When I mentioned that it was for my son she commented that she would never let her children use it. I have always made things for kids and let them use them. Am I strange that I give my kids cross stitched gifts that they can use? I figure that the lady was referring to the fact it might get ruined by the kids. Although, it would be sad to see a gift ruined but at the same time it is being used and to me when it is used that is the highest form of compliment.
It doesn't look like we will be doing much this weekend. It has been raining for the last 3 days and no signs of stopping either. Today I got my November Topaz Fairy from Mirabilia so I might just start on her. I am going to stitch her on some 32 count white opalescent fabric. I still need to purchase the beads and kreiniks but at least I can start at least! :)

I also likt the bag! And I love the fabric you used for finishing this bag!
Well done!

Great way to finish this ;)
Great work, Dawn :) I love your fabric choice!!
The bag turned out great! Love the fabric.
I make my things to be used whether it's cross stitch or knitting. I can't stand when I give someone a knitted washcloth and they tell me "it's too pretty to use". It's a WASHCLOTH for Pete's sake. LOL
Use it ... we'll make more!
If your little guy thinks it's the cool then I'd let him use it. The memories are so important and his memory will be that his Mama took time and MADE his treat bag. That will ALWAYS be special.
I think that is a lovely bag! :)
I give my kids cross stitched stuff and I think it is the highest compliment if your son loves it! I really love that fabric too! Great job!
Yes, the bag is wonderful and I'm sure your son will have lots of fun using it.
It's a constant discussion in the quilting world, too, USE IT or HANG IT. What makes it worse is that quilt judges look for lots and lots of closely stitched quilting lines. Some quilts are so "quilted" that you could never use it as a lap robe or a bed quilt because it is stiff enough to stand up! I say USE IT. Other stitchers are stitching patches for their children's backpacks. Good for them and good for you. Memories last, things don't.
Great finish and you made a beautiful bag. I know your son will enjoy using it.
Love the loot bag, what a cute design.
Absolutely use it! I still have my baby sweaters and mittens my Mom knitted for me...spit up and all. You will get the absolute true satisfaction 10 or 20 years from now when you hear your son say "My Mom used to make stuff for me to use ALL the time". That other parent won't be hearing that.
Great finish!! I like the fabric you used.
cute Halloween finish.I am sure when kids have seen Mums stitch for them they understand what has gone into a project and hopefully will take a little more care.Projects can be cleaned though so I have no problems with stitching for kids.
Funny design for a halloween bag. I love the fabric you used.
Just love the bag. When I make a to use item, I just hope they use it. I made my SIL a afghan for their baby and she never used it. Now that I don;t like.
Very cute bag, and I say use it. There are definitely some designs I wouldn't put in the "use" category, but all of those are large, involve lots of special fibers, lots of work, and most likely beads. But things like your son's treat bag will give far more enjoyment out of being used than hung on a door knob.
That bag is just great!
I think it should be used!
Well everyone says use the bag and I must say that I agree!! You intended it to be used, Mac wants to use it so that's great. :D I have gotten some of my nice china out to use every day - life's too short to not enjoy using the things you love!
I *LOVE* it. I think it should be used as well. My mom always made me things to use. I want to learn to sew, so I can make things for my kids as well.
Your bag turned out so cute! The fabric you chose for it is perfect. I think it's nice to put pieces to use, and I think it's so special to make something rather than buy it.
Very cute!!! I love your finishing!! Mac will be very proud to use it :o)
